About the Artist.

Art is about learning. About our ability to sense the working of our reality, both seen and unseen. To assimilate the known and recombine it to make intuitive leaps to ever more understanding. It is this ability that sets us on a path to the stars and hopefully, to a connection with the Divine. I hope as the viewer you explore all the possible connections and workings involved. Historical, intellectual, and physical. Hopefully you find some of the same joy in the Journey that I do. Exploration, learning, improvisation.
— Gregory Corn
  • “Gregory Corn is an American Artist whose work has been said to “expand the boundaries of art.” Among his bodies of work are sculptures of steel and wire that explore geometry and balance, sometimes reflecting the rules of the physical world, other times seeming to defy them.

Corn has been making art for over a half a century. A precocious child, he began by sculpting his own toys and drawing fantasies of undersea and outer space exploration. Before long, his studies became serious. He credits an amazing teacher named Al Feit with helping him realize he was, in fact, an artist.

As a teenager, Corn spent 3 summers as an apprentice with Painter/illustrator Gilbert Stone, learning techniques and painting backgrounds. By age 16 he was given the opportunity to teach Stone’s class at the School of Visual Arts (SVA) in New York City, serving as an unofficial substitute. Next came Parsons, where Corn found his way deeper into fine art and sculpture with Ronnie Bladen and Kes Zapkus serving as his most influential mentors.

Balancing endeavors into fine art with practical artisanship, Corn spent his summers and breaks involved in custom building on Fire Island. There he learned varied skills and acquired tooling that enabled him to support himself while also more further developing his Art.

In 1981 Corn founded Rockledge Industries ltd., which he still runs. Blending his aristry with architectural details, Corn began taking on the most creative projects he could find while always infusing his work with deep practical knowledge. Earning quite a name for himself in this fashion, he soon found himself working on projects worth up to three quarters of a million dollars for clients you would likely know.

Thus, Corn has crafted a career working in the nexus between Art and Architecture, specializing in design, engineering and fabrication of varied artistic architectural features in stone, metals, wood and glass. Sculpting, painting murals, creating mosaics, fine stone work, faux painting, carvings, antiquing and antique restorations are also within the scope of his work.

In 1993 Corn did a MFA fellowship at CW Post where he began seriously showing his fine art. Exhibitions of his work have been hosted in various Museums and Galleries such as the Islip Museum, The Mills Pond House, and the Heckscher Museum, the Omni Gallery, Gallery North, the Remsenberg Academy, The Full Moon Art Center, the Woodward Gallery, the Dru Arstark Gallery and Jim Kempner fine Arts.

Having completed his greatest works – raising three boys -- Corn is now refining his business to only take on choice projects, while concentrating on sculpture work that is just aching to be realized.” - Katheryn Laible
